Best laid plans...


My thought had been to organize the condo association's calendar around the usual meeting day of the Board of Director - the third Tuesday of the month. But life and holiday schedules get in the way.

The meetings for October, November, December have to be changed in order to accommodate one case the general manager's travel schedule and in the other the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.

In addition to the schedule change snafu, one of the Board members resigned after the last meeting. The remaining Board members are left with the unenviable task of appointing someone to fill the seat until the next annual meeting, scheduled for April.

An announcement went out asking qualified unit owners to send a letter of interest to the General Manager and the Board would consider the applicants at the October meeting.

There are several candidates that are interested.  We will see about about a new Board member in November.

3rd Tuesday of the month is "Imperial House Day"

Routines make life easier in a way. As my Ex used to say "either we are in a groove or a rut". I prefer to think of setting aside the third Tuesday of the month as the day the Imperial House Board hosts events as getting into a groove.  Events such as Board meetings, community forums and social events like the annual holiday party. August is usually the month the Board does not meet. This year, on the third Tuesday we will have an "End of the Summer/Back to School" gathering on the roof deck. An opportunity to meet and greet members of the Board and other owners/residents in the building.  Imperial House folks, watch your inbox for details.

A second attempt at president of Imperial House Board

The election of officers, which usually happens after the annual meeting this year. Two things happened to break with that tradition. First, the annual meeting had to be postponed because, and this is a first, there weren't enough proxies submitted to constitute a quorum. When the annual meeting was reconvened one of the candidates, who was ultimated elected (with a very narrow margin) was not present. A special meeting was convened prior to the community meeting where the details of the FY2018 budget were detailed.   The purpose was two-fold, to elect officers and to approve two reserve fund projects. The two projects were approved and that left electing the officers for 2017-2018. I spoke up saying that I was interested in serving as president.  Awkwardly I asked the incumbent if she wanted to continue as president. She indicated no she was interested in continuing to served. First Board Meeting Under My Belt

A well organized agenda and keeping what could have been controversial to the end of meeting helped the first meeting I chaired go pretty well. I provided a written president's report as a part of the agenda as my way of introducing changes to how I would like the Board to operate and to interact with the rest of the Imperial House community. So far so good. This includes an email address for the board president - president at ihcondo dot com. My intent is have fewer and shorter meetings to address the issues that can not decided on by email. I have introduced a meeting calendar that revolves around Imperial House related events on the 3rd Tuesday of the month - the 3rd Tuesday is Imperial House day, including social events.  The hope is that residents and owners will build into their schedule.
